Get Ready for Earth Hour 2010

Millions of people across the world are getting ready to eradicate the global warming to some extent which is one of the biggest problems of today through the Earth hour 2010.

Let us make you clear what exactly is Earth hour…

Earth hour is considered as a greatest act of global unity which is organized by WWF World Wide Fund for Nature (other wise called as World Wildlife Fund) and said to be a resolution to the problems of climate changes.

In order to cope up from the effect of global warming to at least some extent the whole world is uniting together on March 27th at 8.30 Pm (local time) to put off the lights for one hour.

The goal of the Earth hour is to maintain a low carbon economy in addressing the problem of global warming and also prove that we have every possible chance to take the action against climate changes.

Cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai will take part in this global event.

“Earth Hour will bring together people from all walks of life and unite countries across the planet to show the world we can work together to resolve the issue of climate change,” said Earth Hour Co-Founder and Executive Director, Andy Ridley.

“Absolutely any individual, business, civil group or government can initiate Earth Hour in their country, region or local community and lead a global climate resolution,” he said.

Earth hour has originally started in 2007 in Sydney alone where 2.2 million residents participated, following this the other countries and cities around the world has adopted the event in the year 2008 and finally, was spread to 4000 cities and towns across 88 countries in the year 2009 which is considered as the greatest voluntary event in the world that has happened ever.

Earth hour 2009 remained as a successful global event which went onto millions of people all over the world. It was also successful in India, where approximately 5 million people turned off the lights and saved 1000 MW of power in just 1 hour.

Several educational institutions, top public and private sector organizations, hotels, shopping malls, cinema complexes and historical monuments such as Qutub minar, Red fort, Humayun’s tomb also went dark. Celebrities like Aamir Khan, Sachin Tendulkar, and Anil Kumble has encouraged the campaign.

The WWF is hoping that Earth hour 2010 will reach huge millions of people and will become a successful global event than the year 2009.

The promotional campaign will start six weeks prior to the event day and will end the campaign on March 27th with a celebration for the support.

So, make a mark in your diary and get ready for the candle lights on March 27th, at 8.30 pm.
