Etiquette Today ?

शिस्टाचार / शिष्टता / सभ्याचार / सभ्यता / रीति Have you ever really studied the people who work with you or indeed around you? If you have, you will probably come to one conclusion. That today's workforce can be compared to a well-mixed salad: of young and old, male and female, those that are highly educated and those that are less so. This diverse mix means that each person brings to the work environment his or her own set of beliefs, values and expectations. This also means that there is going to be more than one way of looking at a situation or tackling a problem — all of which make good sense. But such variety in the workplace makes it imperative for supervisors and co-workers to be sensitive to different communication and working styles and this is where etiquette becomes so important. Let's look at this whole business of etiquette another way. If you have a bunch of people who are constantly snapping and snarling at each other, you will witness company output suffering. I

FAMILY & ETIQUTTE [Courtesy : Rahul Hareesh / Shahzad Alam - Thanks To BOTH Of YOU - आप दोनों को धन्यवाद् !!! ] I ran into a stranger as he passed by, "Oh excuse me please" was my reply. He said, "Please excuse me too; I wasn't watching for you." We were very polite, this stranger and I. We went on our way and we said goodbye. But at home a different story is told, How we treat our loved ones, young and old. Later that day, cooking the evening meal, My son stood beside me very still. When I turned, I nearly knocked him down. "Move out of the way," I said with a frown. He walked away, his little heart broken. I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken. While I lay awake in bed, God's still small voice came to me and said, "While dealing with a stranger, common courtesy WE use, but the family WE love, WE seem to abuse. Go and look on the kitchen floor, You'll find some flowers there by the door. Those are the flowers he b

Delhi Police Hero : Mohan Chand Sharma

ऐसे वीर सिपाही को शत-शत नमन ओ जाने वाले हो सके तो लौट के आना ...At a time when most fathers would have stayed beside their sick son's hospital bed, tend to his blood transfusion and ensure that the dengue died down, Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma rushed to Jamia Nagar from the hospital to raid a house where terrorists were holed up। He hadn't gone home for three days, rushing from office to hospital and back and his wife expected him to return on Friday evening finally. But home they brought the warrior dead. ...Sharma (42) was undoubtedly Delhi Police's top shot terror fighter, after ACP Rajbir Singh had been murdered a few months back. But he was no gunslinger. His forte was his technical expertise and his surveillance prowess was unmatched in the force. …Winner of seven gallantry awards, including the President's gallantry medal and 150 police rewards, Sharma, who moved with extra protection, was credited with the killing of 35 terrorists and the arrest of 80 others.

Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.

The New York Times : Friday, September 19, २००८ http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/business/companies/lehman_brothers_holdings_inc/index.html?excamp=GGBUlehmannews&WT.srch=1&WT.mc_ev=click&WT.mc_id=BI-S-E-GG-NA-CT-lehman_news Lehman Brothers was founded in 1850 by two cotton brokers in Montgomery, Ala। The firm moved to New York City after the Civil War and grew into one of Wall Street's investment giants, despite period brushes with death. On Sept. 14, 2008, the investment bank announced that it would file for liquidation after huge losses in the mortgage market and a loss of investor confidence crippled it and it was unable to find a buyer. Lehman's slow collapse began as the mortgage market crisis unfolded in the summer of 2007, when its stock began a steady fall from a peak of $82 a share. The fears were based on the fact that the firm was a major player in the market for subprime and prime mortgages, and that as the smallest of the major Wall Street firms, it f

Lehman : All About ?

The history of Lehman Brothers parallels the growth of the United States and its energetic drive toward prosperity and international prominence. What would evolve into a global financial entity began as a general store in the American South.Henry Lehman, an immigrant from Germany, opened his small shop in the city of Montgomery, Alabama in 1844. Six years later, he was joined by brothers Emanuel and Mayer, and they named the business Lehman Brothers. The firm, thus, was founded in 1850. Cotton was the cash crop of the time, and the Lehmans accepted it from the local farmers as currency to settle accounts. The brothers traded the cotton for cash or merchandise, becoming brokers for buyers and sellers of the crop.In 1858, they opened an office in New York, which was the commodity trading center of the country. The Civil War disrupted the Lehmans' business. When hostilities ended, the brothers moved north and concentrated their operations in New York, where they helped establish the C

Industries with 10+ Staff to be Under EPF

6 Jul, 2008 - PTI The government on Saturday approved the proposal of bringing industries with 10 or more employees under the ambit of Employee’s Provident Fund (EPF) against the earlier limit of twenty or more workers. The decision on revision in the rate of interest of the EPF corpus fund for the year 2008-09 was deferred till the next meeting of the EPFO. A high-level meeting of board members of Central Provident fund chaired by Union Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes decided that the industries with ten or more employees will have to contribute towards the EPF accounts from now on. “The ceiling for the industries have been revised and now any industry with 10 or more employees will have to deduct EPF money of the employees,” Frenandes said. Currently, industries with 20 or more employees are covered under the ambit of EPF. “It was a major decision and there are several industries that were required to be covered under the EPF. There was resistance from the part of the industries but

Plan for Private Sector Quota May be Shelved

The government has abandoned its populist plan to extend job quotas to the private sector, giving up a scheme which had alarmed the industry, for a more pragmatic approach marked by a renewed push to locate job-intensive units in backward regions. The prime minister's panel on affirmative action in private sector has zeroed in on fiscal incentives for industry as a way to create jobs in backward districts. It is argued that job windows created by manufacturing units in these pockets would benefit dalits and tribals as they form the bulk of population there, thus meeting the objective of socio-economic empowerment that quota in the private sector was supposed to accomplish. The argument, however, is not passing muster even with insiders who see it as merely reinventing the wheel. The development marks the quota rhetoric coming full circle, with what was promised by the ruling coalition as its 'Common Minimum Programme' turning from a bugbear of industry to possible gift bag

45 Nation Group OKs Lndmark US-India Nuke Deal

Associated Press ...... VIENNA, Austria (AP) — The U.S. gained key international backing Saturday for a bitterly contested plan to sell peaceful nuclear technology to India — a South Asia powerhouse that has tested atomic weapons but has refused to sign global nonproliferation accords. Washington said the landmark deal, which still needs U.S. congressional approval, will place India's nuclear program under closer scrutiny. But detractors warned it could set a dangerous precedent in efforts to rid the world of weapons of mass destruction. "By establishing a 'good guys' and 'bad guys' set of rules, the decision will make it far harder to curb the South Asian nuclear and missile arms race," said Daryl Kimball, who heads the Washington-based Arms Control Association. Kimball said the deal could undermine efforts to contain the Iranians and North Koreans. Saturday's approval by the 45-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group dealt "a profound setback to the nucl

Nuclear Deal: NSG Stuck on the 'TESTING'

VIENNA: The Nuclear Suppliers Group is beginning to tire under the relentless pressure to take a decision on the N-deal. As the 45-country nuclear cartel sat down this morning to consider the new US draft text for the India waiver, the debate had narrowed down to the infamous ''testing'' clause. .......... By the close, though diplomats remained tight-lipped, it appeared a deal may have been struck. A possible compromise on Friday could be that concerns of those who objected will be included in a tough-sounding chairman's statement, which will be attached to the waiver. .......... The new draft is not substantially different from the old one. Last time, consensus broke down on three main points - what happens if India tests another nuclear device, whether India should get enrichment and reprocessing technology and whether India should come under some kind of a review programme. .......... The first is the hardest and is the subject of heated debate. The new draft sa

Why the Nuke Deal May Not Be Called Off

..... NEW DELHI: If the devil lies in detail, a revealing comment by the Bush administration to US Congress shows Washington does not expect the "worst-case" clauses of the Indo-US nuclear deal to be tested as it simply does not think India will test a nuclear device any time soon. ..... The 26-page response to questions raised by the Congress, now posted on the US foreign affairs committee website, present a stark picture of the likely consequences if India conducts a nuclear test. But even as it outlines the possibility of the nuclear deal being called off, it provides a hint as to why this may not happen. ..... On whether US was bound to assist India in sourcing fuel even if the pact is terminated, the state department has explained how and why commitments on supplies will operate. It has said ceasing cooperation would be a "serious step" needing consideration of circumstances which include a nuclear "detonation" or violation of International Atomic Ene
